Future Fund Scholarship

The Rebuild Edu-Fund (REF) is born out of the co-founder, Dr. Islamiat Abidemi Raji's deeply personal journey and a heartfelt commitment to giving back. Raised in a polygamous family in Nigeria as the youngest of eight daughters, Dr. Raji witnessed her sisters' struggles to pursue education. Determined to break this cycle, she became the first to earn a university degree, excelling in a male-dominated field and standing as the only female student in her cohort.

Dr. Raji's academic journey led her to South Africa, where she earned her doctorate, a country navigating complex challenges at the intersection of racism, xenophobia, and gender-based violence. These experiences deepened her commitment to justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity. Additionally, the challenges of early and forced marriage in Nigeria fueled her passion to ensure every child has access to education and the opportunity to thrive.

During high school, despite her brilliance and ambition, financial constraints almost prevented her from taking the General Certificate of Education (GCE) exams. A compassionate teacher's support allowed her to overcome this hurdle, a gesture that profoundly impacted her life. Benefiting from multiple scholarships throughout her academic journey, Dr. Raji realized the transformative power of such support.

REF Scholarships were created to extend this lifeline to other aspiring students. The program aims to provide financial assistance, mentorship, and resources to help young minds overcome obstacles and achieve their educational dreams. Through these scholarships, the program is committed to fostering a more just and equitable society, where every child has the opportunity to succeed and make a difference.

The Back-To-School Initiative (BSI): A Journey of Hope

For many children living in villages, suburban areas, and even urban slums in Nigeria, education is a distant dream—something talked about but rarely experienced. In these low-income communities, most children wake up before dawn every day to help their mothers sell goods to make ends meet or join their father in farm work. With mothers often being uneducated petty traders and fathers working as self-employed electro-mechanics, low-income farmers or bus drivers, the idea of affording school supplies is unimaginable. This is not just a fairytale but a relatable story for many of us who grew up in these areas.

Rebuild Edu-Foundation, recognizing the plight of these children, launched the Back to School Initiative to ensure every child has the opportunity to attend school and, most importantly, be educated, irrespective of their background. This initiative aimed to provide school supplies, uniforms, and scholarships to children in need, and to build and renovate schools in remote areas.

Rebuild Edu-Foundation aims to continue to light the path to transformative education and opportunities for job employment and creation, for countless children in Africa. By providing the resources and support needed, the foundation is ensuring that every child, no matter their circumstance, has the chance to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.

BSI is not just about going back to school; it's about acquiring transformative education. Rebuild Edu-foundation is rebuilding education in Africa, helping Africa to create a future where education is accessible to all, where dreams are nurtured, and where every child can aspire to greatness.
